At Kol Ami we acknowledge that we are situated on Traditional Territories and Treaty Lands, including those of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations and other Indigenous Peoples. As Jews and as a community, may we always strive to fulfill our Jewish value of Tzedek Tirdof – the pursuit of justice in our society.
We believe that a land acknowledgement carries the greatest meaning when it is supported by ongoing learning, reflection, and action. Following thoughtful discussion and consultation, Kol Ami has chosen to include our Land Acknowledgement on our website and in other permanent communications, while reserving its spoken recitation for significant communal occasions such as the High Holy Days, major congregational gatherings, and other special public events where appropriate.
We recognize that reconciliation is an ongoing journey rather than a single statement. As a Jewish community committed to learning, justice, and respect for all people, we seek to deepen our understanding of Indigenous histories and perspectives and to explore meaningful opportunities for education, relationship-building, and action that reflect our values. We hope this approach encourages our community to engage with the spirit and purpose of land acknowledgement in a thoughtful and enduring way.
