At Kol Ami, a strong relationship with Israel is central to Jewish identity and Jewish life.
We support Israel with our voices, our prayers, and our resources.

Celebrating Israel

Throughout the year, we learn about and celebrate Israel through speakers, panel discussions, and family education programming.

Each year on the Shabbat closest to Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day, the Kol
Ami community comes together to celebrate and learn. We transform our Religious School
into one big family learning program, in which parents and children together explore the
Jewish state and its relevance to their lives.

Teaching our Children

Kol Ami Religious School students learn to love Israel from the first day they step into our classrooms. Through songs, prayers, pictures, and programs, we help the Jewish state come alive in their lives.

For many years, our congregation has participated in the “Shinshinim” program. Through this program, we are privileged to be able to bring two young people from Israel to Canada to spend the year working on education and advocacy in the congregation. The shinshinim work closely with our Director of Education, and also get involved in Adult Education and worship.

Supporting Reform Judaism in Israel

As a Reform congregation, we are committed to the idea that all forms of Judaism should be equal in the Jewish state. We are strong supporters of the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism and its advocacy arm, the Israel Religious Action Center.

In 2012, Kol Ami created a partnership with Congregation Birkat Shalom at Kibbutz Gezer. We are proud to support our sister congregation in its work to build Reform Jewish life in Israel.
